Carbon Neutral Future
14 May 2024
As a company, we’re growing. But our carbon output is shrinking, and here’s how.
We strive to adhere to best environmental practices at all stages of our supply chain. Whether that means calculating the least environmentally damaging mode of transport for moving stock. Or providing action plans to suppliers who need enhanced facilities to meet our standards.
TOGETHER FOR A BETTER FUTURE
It’s not all in how we manufacture
We’ve seen a 40% reduction in waste across the business in recent years
We have a comprehensive waste management process on top of our recycling management
LED lighting is fitted in all our stores and our distribution centre
We participate in the Cycle to Work scheme, helping to save employees up to 39% on the cost of a bike and all the gear they need for an environmentally friendly commute
We also partner with Octopus Electric Vehicles to offer a scheme allowing employees to save up to 40% on a brand-new electric car
DELIVERING ON OUR PROMISE
Locally...
We selected DPD to be our delivery partner because of their carbon neutral commitment. They strive to reduce CO2 emissions and offset anything remaining
And globally...
We move 95% of our finished goods by sea, which has a much lower carbon footprint compared to air freight. With an estimated 30% carbon reduction in shipping incoming goods
Air freight accounted for less than 3% of our shipments in 2022
We work with Partners located near one another to share shipments and fill containers to at least 90% capacity
SAYING NO TO LANDFILL
0% of our excess material goods go to landfill.
Recycling is step one. For material goods like incorrect samples and unsellable products, we found a UK-based company that grinds them down to a powder which can then in turn be used for decorative aggregate, an industry term for items such as patio slabs and garden bricks.
OUR AWARD FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT
We were joint winners at the British Retail Consortium’s first Climate Action Roadmap Showcase in 2022. Taking home an award in the Reducing Waste category.
The Climate Action Roadmap was launched by the BRC as a commitment from the retail industry to deliver net zero carbon emissions in their own operations and the products they sell by 2040.
WE WON’T STOP UNTIL WE’VE REACHED CARBON ZERO
